Bob Tarter with Great Horned Owl
NHECM is owned and managed by wildlife biologist, Bob Tarter. An avid conservationist and wildlife enthusiast, Bob has had a life-long dream of working with animals while growing up in Southern Illinois.
After graduating from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, Bob worked for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for several years as a wildlife biologist. While in Indiana, Bob helped manage the 7,000 acre Glendale Fish & Wildlife area in Southern Indiana.

Bob then spent time as a wildlife biologist with Ducks Unlimited and their waterfowl research program in North Dakota.
In 2005 Bob incorporated the Natural History Educational Company of the Midsouth (NHECM) in order to educate children about the natural world and reach out to others who may never have an opportunity to view and learn about these animals up close.
Along with all of his animal “kids”, Bob lives with his wife, Beth, and his three dogs, “Nina”, “Lilly” and “Sable” in Middle Tennessee. In November 2010, we welcomed our little boy, “Nathan”, into our family - who is quickly becoming as adventurous and animal loving as his dad!
